Job Fair And Career Tips Fort Worth Job Seekers

1. Gal likely not to be promoted: "That is not my responsibility."

2. Follow up with recruiters after the job fair. The problem with the “sit, wait, and hope strategy” most job seekers are using is that they will continue to sit, wait, and hope until the job was filled by someone else. When you are at the job fair be sure to collect as much information as you can about the company, job, and recruiter that you spoke to. Follow up the next day on conversations you had and ask for an interview. Don't let your competition snatch those jobs away from you while you sit waiting for the phone to ring.

3. Gal likely to be promoted: "I talked to that customer and got a resolution for him."

4. Go to the job fair early, but not to apply for jobs. Do you know why TV crews and newspaper reporters show up early at job fairs? It’s because the job fair is most crowded first thing in the morning. For you, however, that is a problem, because you want some face time with each employer. Employers will be very distracted first thing in the morning trying to manage the large crowd. Instead of fighting the crowd for face time, use those first couple hours of the job fair to watch and listen. Study your competition and each employer's display. What can you learn to fine tune your approach.

5. What you are going to say. Have talking points and a 30 second summary of your work experience prepared in advance.

5 Great Ways To Totally Blow It At A Job Fair
Job fairs offer job seekers an opportunity to meet employers face to face, a luxury that applying via the web or phone will not allow. However, while meeting a recruiter or HR representative in person is a real advantage it also opens up the doors for complete disaster if the job seeker unknowingly demonstrates any of behaviors listed in this article that employers find completely annoying.
Read more here.

One Of The Most Successful Job Fair Strategies EVER

The job seekers who are most successful at job fairs are those who go in with a strategy. There are several strategies you can employ at any of the Fort Worth job fairs listed on this page to help you be successful in getting the interviews and job offers you are after. For example, your appearance, your resume, your handshake, your elevator speech, and the amount of homework you did are all part of an overall job fair strategy you should construct before attending the hiring event and approaching employers.

How you approach each individual recruiter at any Fort Worth job fair is critically important.
(Yes, HOW you approach a hiring manager at a job fair is even more important than your resume.) Like everyone else, Fort Worth recruiters are going to make a snap judgment about you within 3 seconds of meeting you and decide whether or not to give you a chance. This is why you want immediately build a positive, enthusiastic rapport with each employer you meet. In order to help you accomplish this use the following strategy to give you an advantage.

The Reconnaissance Job Fair Strategy
A strategy that always pays off at a job fair is to "scope out" the event, prior to approaching any of the Fort Worth employers in attendance. When you arrive at the job fair take some time to casually walk around the venue. Carry a note pad and take notes about what and who you see. Observe every single employer at the job fair. You want to note things that will help you prepare to successfully approach the hiring manager, particularly those representing the companies you are most interested in.

What appears to be important to each individual recruiter? What does your competition sound like, and how do they react to different job seeker personalities? Do they seem very formal or more relaxed? Be looking for cues that will allow you to tailor your approach. In essence you are taking it all in so that you can make any last minute tweaks to your approach strategy. Matching your mannerisms to theirs will allow you to more quickly build rapport with the hiring manager.

Quiet Job Fair Research
A second reason for scoping out the job fair is so you can identify any employers you really want to get to, but may have missed on your earlier job fair prep work. A good practice is to identify the employers who will be at the job fair ahead of time so you can research their companies and have some relevant, insightful piece of information about them to talk about. In the event you you missed one of those employers you will see them as you make your initial pass around the job fair room. This will allow you to find a quiet spot away from the crowd, do some quick research with your smartphone, and find something to of relevance to talk to the hiring manager about.

The Reverse Reconnaissance Job Fair Strategy
So you have successfully completed the Reconnaissance Job Fair Strategy and are now ready to confidently approach all of the hiring managers. However, while you were doing reconnaissance on all the employers, guess what they were doing? They were checking you out as well! That's right, the employers at the job fair are closely scrutinizing the crowd of job seekers. Just like we do in our personal lives with new acquaintances, employers at the job fair are looking for non-verbal cues that would indicate you may be a good candidate for their open positions.

Some of the cues they are looking for include:
-Confidence
-Out going
-A professional look
-Enthusiasm
-A smile that makes others feel welcome
-Your gait - are you dragging your feet or do you move with focus and energy
-Are you polite and professional with others

Knowing that you are being watched gives you a tremendous advantage because you will enter the job fair looking and acting exactly like the candidate all the hiring managers want. In fact the moment you pull into the parking lot at the job fair you should be conducting yourself as if every employer is watching you. Let Fort Worth employers see a confident, professionally dressed, enthusiastic, energetic, smiling, and prepared candidate. All these qualities are contagious and attractive. Do them right and you will have employers excited to see you finally approaching their table at the job fair! Find a Fort Worth job fair now!

5 Reasons You Should Attend A Job Fair

1. Attending a job fair in Fort Worth is an excellent way to make a good first impression.
You should still apply online and send a resume to the employer if you are interested in the job, but never pass up the opportunity to meet your favorite Fort Worth employers face to face at the job fairs they attend. Let's face it. The electronic resume you email to an employer's automated recruiting service will never make the same impression you can. Your resume will never compete against your ability to connect and interact with a hiring manager at the job fair.

Your resume can not give a hiring manager a firm handshake. It can not smile, connect over some event or object close to the manager, or present your 30 second elevator speech like you can do in person at the job fair.

2. You will learn far more about the Fort Worth area employers attending the job fair then you ever will by reading their official corporate statements online.
Getting some time with the company's representative can yield highly valuable insider information that will be critically relevant as you prepare to interview. When you are at the job fair your job is to ask for an interview. Once you determine how to make that happen it’s very beneficial to engage the company's representative there at the job fair in conversation about the company.

She may be able to give you insight about projects, news, problems, and opportunities you can reference and offer your expertise to when you interview. This is also a great opportunity to ask about the culture of the company. What is day to day life like at this Fort Worth area company? Do you think you will be comfortable there? You have a much better change of learning these things at the job fair than you do on the company website.

3. Some job fairs in Fort Worth will have employers who want to interview you that very same day.
It’s not uncommon for recruiters at job fairs to ask you to interview for a job right there. Of course, you are at the job fair to meet multiple employers, but don’t pass up a chance to interview that same day. You are looking for a better opportunity after all.

As with hiring managers at any job fair, Fort Worth employers are looking for the best candidates. If the recruiter you meet at the job fair sees something on your resume that immediately intrigues her she may take the opportunity to learn much more about your experience since you are already there. You should attend every job fair in Fort Worth prepared to also interview on the spot.

4. At the job fair you put your resume in the hands of a decision maker, not a mechanical screener.
Yes, many companies use software programs or third parties to screen resumes. That resume you crafted to perfection over the last 3 weeks? It will most likely never even seen by human eyes. A far better way to get your resume in the hands of the Fort Worth employers you are most interested in is to approach them directly at any job fairs they attend.

Even better than placing your resume directly into the hands of a hiring manager is the fact that you are placing yourself directly in front of their face. At job fairs employers come out from “behind the curtains” and meet candidates face to face. Use this opportunity to give your elevator speech and sell yourself to the Fort Worth employers you want to work for.

5. Fort Worth recruiters are highly connected people.
Even at job fairs where many Fort Worth employers are set up and actively recruiting, you may find that there is not a perfect job for you. That doesn’t mean the day is wasted. There still may be plenty of opportunities for you to find a new job. Even if you are not finding an employer you are interested in you should take the time to talk to hiring managers, learn about them and their company, exchange information, and ask for a referral.

Recruiters working in Fort Worth are highly connected. That means they have a professional relationship with many other hiring managers, human resource staff, and recruiters not only in their industry but in others as well. Taking the time to talk to all the recruiters at the job fair may not lead to a job offer but could very well provide you with excellent references to employers who are a better match for you.
